What ‘solid gold’ really means (and why it matters)

Not all gold jewelry is created equal and knowing the difference can help you make smarter, longer-lasting choices when building your collection.

At GoldenSage, we exclusively offer solid gold pieces, and here’s why that matters:

Solid Gold

Solid gold jewelry is made entirely of gold, inside and out. It doesn’t tarnish or rub off over time, and with proper care, it can last a lifetime (or more). It’s a true investment in both quality and timeless style. We use 14k and 18k solid gold, which strikes the perfect balance between beauty and durability. Gold-Filled

Gold-filled jewelry has a thick layer of gold (usually 5% of the item’s total weight) bonded to a base metal like brass. It lasts longer than plated pieces and can be a good mid-range option, but it still may wear down with time and exposure.

Gold Vermeil

Pronounced “ver-may,” this is a special type of gold-plated jewelry made with sterling silver as the base. It must have a layer of at least 2.5 microns of gold to qualify. While higher quality than basic plated jewelry, it still won’t have the longevity of solid gold.

Gold-Plated

This is the most affordable, and least durable, option. A very thin layer of gold is applied over a base metal, and it tends to wear off quickly with regular use, exposing the metal underneath.

Choosing solid gold means choosing lasting value, hypoallergenic comfort, and the kind of elegance that never fades.
